The history of Chevalier de Fers 9732

A French translation of Chevalier de fers is ‘riders of the iron horse’ but technically a knight rider .

5 enduro club motorcycling mason friends came up with the idea possibly at a festive board & wrote letters to freemasonry today and reached out through the new technology and email to the Internet Lodge & and after many meetings and discussions members were sight from the 4 corners of UGLE . In November 2000 the first and national peripatetic (travelling)motorcycle lodge was on the starting blocks .

Our Beginings

The sponsoring lodge and mother province was Prince Edward of Saxe Weimar lodge 1903 in Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

The primus master was Arthur Agate and the home temple set as basingstoke as UGLE would not consider a travelling warrant as military lodges were historically granted .

Names were discussed the motorcyclist lodge was not allowed and Chevaliers chosen over Gold Star.

Meeting dates

After a good run for the first few years new members were scarce and the lodge moved to be more central and its new home is Leicestershire and the installation is the second Saturday in September with travelling meetings one Saturday in April & July .
